Delete Your Account
Last updated: 14 April 2026
Study Music Theory makes it easy to delete your account and all associated data at any time, from within the app.
⚠ This is permanent and immediate. Deletion cannot be undone. Your XP, streak, leaderboard entry, mastery progress, and SRS state will all be permanently wiped. If you later create a new account, you will start from zero.
How to delete your account
Step 1. Open Study Music Theory
Sign in to studymusictheory.com (web) or open the Study Music Theory app on your phone.
Step 2. Go to your profile
Tap the Me tab in the bottom navigation bar.
Step 3. Scroll to the bottom
Below your achievements and the "Sign out" button, you will see a red "Delete my account" button.
Step 4. Confirm twice
Tap the button. You will be asked to confirm, then asked to confirm again. This double-confirmation is to protect you against accidental taps.
Step 5. Done
Your account is deleted, all data is wiped, and the app reloads to a fresh state.
What gets deleted
- Your Firebase Authentication record (your sign-in credential)
- Your leaderboard entry in Firestore (name, XP, weekly XP, streak)
- All your local progress on the device you used to delete: XP, hearts, streak, SRS state, mastery streaks, preferences, tooltip flags
What may survive
- Local data on other devices. If you used Study Music Theory on multiple devices, deleting from one device only clears that device's local storage. To fully clean up, open the app on each device and either clear your browser data or use "Delete my account" again (it will still wipe local data even if the account is already gone).
- Anonymised server logs. Firebase may retain internal security logs for a short period for anti-abuse purposes. These do not contain personal information and are not accessible to us.
If the in-app button does not work
If Firebase asks you to "sign in again to confirm deletion", this is a security requirement — Firebase only allows account deletion for recently authenticated sessions. Simply sign out, sign back in, and try again.
If you still cannot delete your account through the app, email us at studymsk6@gmail.com with the subject line "Account deletion request" and the Google email address associated with your account. We will process the deletion manually within 7 days and reply to confirm.
Deleting the app only
If you just want to uninstall the mobile app but keep your account (so your progress is preserved if you come back), simply uninstall from your device's normal app management screen. Your Firebase account and local progress on that device will remain until you explicitly delete them.
